Elks Complete Rally With Victory Over Stampeders

The Edmonton Elks completed a rally to narrowly defeat the Calgary Stampeders 25-23 as Dean Faithfull kicked a 42-yard field goal as time expired to hand Edmonton a big, comeback victory on Saturday.

“It’s my first one and I’m just really proud to be able to help the boys,” Faithfull said, according to TSN. “I told them it’s their win, they worked so hard to get that win and I’m just happy I can contribute.”

The Elks get a bit of revenge after they blew a 15-point lead during the fourth quarter of their Labor Day loss to the Stampeders. The victory brings their record on the season to 3-10. Calgary (4-9) has lost four of its last five.

The Elks were paced by running back Kevin Brown who ran for 143 yards.

“Definitely, that’s the most I’ve ever got in a game, period,” Brown said following the game. “I’m honoured. I mean, give it up to the guys up front, the O-line and the receivers blocking downfield. I wouldn’t be able to do it without them.”

“It is tough to be on the other end of a game like that,” Stampeders head coach Dave Dickenson added. “It felt like we had a real good chance to win that game and it just got away on us. We didn’t play well enough. We didn’t win the line of scrimmage battle and take advantage of our opportunities. They got momentum and took it.

“It’s a big blow on our season.”
