The Edmonton Elks have sighed veteran offensive lineman Mark Korte to a three-year contract extension, according to an official statement issued by the team on Monday.

“Mark is the ultimate pro, ultimate leader and ultimate teammate,” Elks assistant general manager Geroy Simon in am official team statement. “He’s been a great addition to the club on the field and in the community. We are happy to keep him home for the next three years.”

Korte, a center, was originally a first-round pick of the Ottawa Redblacks in the 2018 CFL Draft out of the University of Alberta and would go on to play 48 games with the team starting at both left tackle and at center.

“We’ve been building something truly special here in Edmonton,” Korte said of the new contract. “I’m excited to remain here and see this team take the next steps forward to our vision.”

The Elks (3-10) aren’t having a good season, but signing the 27-year old Korte is a good step in building a core for the future.
